Job Description
***20 HOUR WORK WEEK***
This position is responsible professional legal work calendaring and conducting hearings and make determinations on child support matters assigned for hearing by family court judges pursuant to Rule 12.491, Fla. Fam. L. R. P. The Hearing Officer takes and evaluates evidence and testimony from witnesses and technical experts, uses that information in making findings of fact, conclusions of law and prepares a recommended order for the family court judges. The Hearing Officer is responsible for setting assigned cases for hearings, conducting hearings, making determinations on cases, and preparing recommended orders for the judge’s signature. This position reports directly to the Chief Judge or a designee.
Examples of Work Performed
• Conduct legal research in preparation for hearing child support matters, schedule cases and conduct hearings in compliance with applicable regulations and laws; gather data in the form of documentary evidence and testimony.
• Review proposed recommended orders submitted by attorneys and considers related research and information presented at hearings to make case determination; in the form of recommended orders to the courts.
• Make rulings on pre-trial and post-judgement motions including discovery, dismissal and motions for relief, clarification and re-hearings.
The omission of specific statements does not preclude management from assigning specific duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.
Education and Training Guidelines
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school is required for this position.
Five (5) years of related work experience in the practice of law.
At least one (1) year of experience in family law
Requires membership in Good Standing in The Florida Bar

• Knowledge of the rules of evidence and the ability to take evidence.
• Ability to work with litigants who are in stressful situations and lack knowledge of the law.
• Possess a professional, collaborative, and upbeat approach to work and leadership style.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, the ability to prioritize and work under tight deadlines are essential to success in the role.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills, attention to detail and advanced proficiency with and Microsoft Office Suite and JVS or other case management system.
• Demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse set of people in an open and friendly manner
